HubSpot + MCP: when your CRM starts talking to your AI tools

A future-ready CRM needs to evolve with your business. And with the AI tools you have not started using yet. HubSpot’s investment in MCP is a clear step in that direction.

You already use AI to draft copy, explore ideas and summarise information. But when the questions concern your own customers, you often reach a dead end.

Which deals need follow-up? What has happened at the customer’s company before your next meeting? Which businesses in our pipeline match our ideal customer profile?

The answers are in your CRM. Your AI tool needs a way to access them. That is where MCP comes in.

What is MCP, and why does it matter?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a standard for connecting AI tools to external systems.

For HubSpot, this means a compatible AI assistant can access selected information in your CRM and use it in its work. HubSpot’s MCP server connects the AI tool to HubSpot’s APIs. Access is governed by the connection’s permissions and the user’s access rights.

You can ask questions in everyday language and let AI retrieve relevant information, rather than exporting data and pasting it into a chat yourself.

AI becomes more useful when it has access to the context behind the question.

HubSpot has two MCP servers with different roles

When discussing HubSpot’s MCP support, it helps to distinguish between two parts.

One for working with customer data

HubSpot’s remote MCP server connects compatible AI tools to a HubSpot account. It can read information and create or update certain types of CRM records and activities.

It became generally available in April 2026, with expanded support for both reading and writing. The exact actions available depend on the tools and permissions in place.

One for building on HubSpot

HubSpot’s Developer MCP server helps developers work with the platform from compatible AI development tools.

It can be used to create apps and work with CMS themes, templates and modules. This opens up a more AI-assisted way to develop integrations and websites on HubSpot.

For marketing managers, the distinction is simple: one helps your team use the information in HubSpot. The other helps developers build on the platform.

What could this mean in everyday work?

The useful question is which tasks could become easier. Here are some potential use cases, provided the right data and tools are available.

Prepare for customer meetings faster

Ask AI to compile a company’s contacts, open deals and recorded activities. You get a briefing to review and add to before the meeting.

Find deals that need attention

Let AI search for open deals using defined criteria, such as deal stage, latest activity or a missing next step.

Make the marketing-to-sales handover clearer

Compile relevant information about a company and its contacts to give the salesperson better context before the first call.

Reduce administration after meetings

With the right write permissions, some notes, tasks and CRM updates can be handled through the AI tool. Have your team review changes before they are applied.

These are examples of working methods to evaluate. They need to fit your processes and the way your HubSpot account is configured.

Why does this make HubSpot better prepared for the future?

No one can promise that a CRM will be future-proof forever.

At Leadlabs, however, we see a clear advantage in platforms that let you use customer data in more contexts. With MCP, HubSpot builds on its API ecosystem and creates more connections between the CRM and external AI tools.

In our view, this gives companies more room to manoeuvre. Customer information can stay together in HubSpot while the team explores new ways to analyse and work with it.

Choosing a CRM therefore involves more than the features available in its interface today. How well can the platform support the ways of working you want to develop tomorrow?

Better AI still starts with better CRM data

MCP provides the connection. It does not automatically clean up your CRM.

Duplicates, outdated deals and unclear definitions of MQL and SQL still affect the quality of the information. If deals lack a next step, AI also has less to work with.

That is why a good AI project often starts with practical questions:

  • Which information needs to be accurate and up to date?
  • What do our statuses and deal stages mean?
  • Which information should AI be allowed to read or change?
  • How do we check that the result is correct?

Start with a focused task, such as meeting preparation. Test its usefulness, monitor quality and build from there.

Is your HubSpot ready for the next step?

HubSpot’s MCP support creates new ways to get more value from the customer data you already have. The value comes when the technology supports a clear process and a task that needs to become easier.

At Leadlabs, we help you review HubSpot, improve data quality and identify relevant uses for AI.
